In other words, if our aim is to understand the whole host of images, imaginings, reflections, musings, internal feelings, aesthetic responses and whatever else is involved when referring to ‘that which is inside’, then mental imagery research will not really help us. For cognitive psychology mental imagery remains a representational process which involves the manipulation of symbolic entities according to abstract formal operations (information processing), or a ‘brain-like’ neural-network process of associated excitations (connectionism).
