Of course, this is just one approach, but by keeping these key elements in mind, you can take more effective notes and make them easier to use later. To start, give your page a title and choose whether or not you want to view rule lines on your page by choosing your preferred style from Rule Lines in the View menu.

For quickly scanning recent notes, however, youâ ll probably want to organize your sections and folders so that your data is logically grouped and sorted. There are a few different ways that you can organize the notes that you take. You can divide your notes up functionally, meaning that youâ ll create a folder for each job or role that you have. You can organize your notes chronologically, meaning that youâ ll create sections and folders based on dates and that youâ ll probably take notes that rely on time stamps, or you can use a more high-end approach where your job- or subject-based note sections are stored in folders with some sort of time stamp.

If youâ re annotating your paragraphs with a pen by circling or highlighting words using ink, for instance, the drawing that you do is held on its own canvas. This means that if you move the paragraph, the marks that you made will not stay with the paragraph. If you want to highlight text, a better option is to use the Highlight tool on the Formatting toolbar. This tool is different from the Pen tool, even though the Pen tool has some Highlighters available in its list. Text highlighted with the Pen tool will stay highlighted, no matter how you reflow or move the paragraph text.
