Place the overlay right side up on top of the background. 3. Line up the pressed-in center lines in your background with the center lines of the overlay. D TIP The first time you use the overlay for a block, mark an X on the block in the same corner as on the overlay so that you always know how to position the overlay.
3. Trace around the template. The sandpaper board will hold the fabric in place while you trace. Make a line you can see! Be sure to draw the line right up next to the edge of the template. It won’t matter if the line is wide. It gets turned under in hand appliqué and is cut off in casual appliqué and fusible appliqué. Trace onto fabric for hand appliqué.
