Call for Climate Resources

Postby SusanB » March 29th, 2012, 8:23 am

Hi all,
Laura Moin, formerly of the National Science Digital Library will work with us to make ICEE teacher developed lesson plans meet Open Education Resource standards and translate the highest priority activities into Spanish. She may be in contact with you to see if you have stuff in your files suitable for use by other teachers-we know you do good stuff!

We will use our CLEAN gap analysis in part to identify what is most needed. If you have developed or adapted activities about climate adaptation, ocean acidification, life-science related, climate impacts on freshwater, activities related to climate and industry please let us know.

The full gap analysis is here: http://cleanet.org/clean/community/gap_analysis I find clicking on the individual principles to see the coverage by concept to be most useful.

Regards,
Susan

Here is a summary of the CLEAN resource gap analysis. Two main findings emerged:

1) A critical need of resources for any educational level that include demonstrations

2) Resources that address specific concepts. For a full list, see the attachment. Examples include resources that address the following concepts:
-- Cyclical changes for the last 1 million years in the intensity of sunlight at the polar and equatorial regions due to changes in Earth's rotation and orbit around the sun.
--Satellite measurements over the past 30 years that show that the changes in the sun's energy output are too small to be the cause of the recent global warming.
--The effect of small amounts of atmospheric heat-trapping greenhouse gases that warm the Earth's and allow for the existence of liquid water.
--The vulnerability of human societies to significant climate changes.
--The effect of climate change on the security of nations and on the availability of water, food, and land.
